 The Relevancy of Islamic Philosophy

 

 

This paper does not intend to do harsh critics on other understanding rather than a pure comparison of religion and philosophy. Of course when there is a lot of things put in the same place, there must be one that is the most strong and concrete. This is the nature of everything. It cant be all the same.

The modern understanding of life is kind of hectic. People can voice out their opinion without proper knowledge. The government also seems to have nothing to hold into in overcoming the problems of the society rather their sole mind. The problem with the rationale alone is the capacity and the biasness that contains within. Some might put a law in order to protect his interests and his entourage. Thus, others will suffer from this action.

Islam however is a religion based on knowledge. The Muslim proved that God is sole and he is the most powerful being in the realms. However, it will not be discussed in this paper because it will be lengthy. Knowledge is essential for human beings. Without an intellect, a person is consider to be insane and thus cannot commit daily activities normally.The next sub-chapter will be discussing on knowledge and how it is related in Islam.

The Purpose of Human To Dwell in This Earth

 

The Muslim believes that they originally are the dwellers of heaven and sent down to this earth as a test. They are being tested in all kinds of form whether it is a good or bad conditions. This test occurred throughout their lifetime. The results is only being told in the hereafter. No one can told others whether he will passed the test or not.

No one can deny the fact that he is born in this world voluntarily and will live this world forever. However, the current modern society seems like not interested in finding these answer rather than accumulating wealth,fame and rank. Although Islam did not prohibits it, but it is the job of human to find the answer and it is the job for the knowledge-equipped Muslim to spread it to others. Thus, the Al-Qur'an answers all of these lives-philosophical answers.

The Al-Quran comes in the forms of general reminder (خباب العام) rather to a specific person or group (مخصوص). Another unique characteristic of Al-Quran that it keeps on telling the same reminder as sign of importance (توكيد). One of the repeated things in Al-Quran is about the wealth,families and power. It is not prohibited entirely but the human tends to do unethical things whether to themselves or others in order to gain the mentioned things.For example, a person might steal or bribe in order to gain materials. This is the things that Islam forbids and even a banned in most of the countries. This is one of the sign that a human is already astray from the path of God.

The Muslim believes that he dwell on this earth as a vicegerant of God. Al-Quran mentioned :

 

أني جاعل في الأرض خليفة

 

Translation : Indeed, I have made human to dwell this land as a vicegerant.






The Tradition of Islamic Knowledge

 

The logic of Islamic philosophy is different from the modern philosophy. This is because the understanding is sourced from the Al-Quran and prophetic tradition rather than self-thinking method.Thus, the people that have the highest understanding of religion after the prophet is the companion. This is followed by the people after him and the chain continues.

Whatever that begets from them have the highest Islamic values including the methods of learning the religion. The previous Islamic scholars learnt  most of the Islamic sciences. The students capability will be better when they become teacher in the future. Only after that it is permissible to focus on few sciences. However, the modern education system does not practice this method. This will results in the teacher lack of understanding in religion and will confused the students on the subjects itself.


Conclusion

 

It is such a miracle where a set of study can still survive and practice until today. That is the characteristic of revealed knowledge (علوم الوحي). Even the great buildings such as pyramids, hanging park of Babylon and others has crumble down once their people vanished. This is different from Islam and the Muslim. There are many Islamic civilization has been vanished but the knowledge and practice of the Muslim are still here today. This is another type of miracle or extraordinary things (معجزة) which Allah has granted to the prophet Mohamad. It is in the form of knowledge and this is as the proof  his prophecy . Other prophets were granted other miracles such as can withstand fire, big camel, parting the sea, holy wands and others.

  Pengenalan       Perlu diketahui bahawa manusia itu terbahagi kepada dua bahagian yang tidak dapat dilihat dengan mata kasar, iaitu akal dan ruh.   Pengenalan     Perlu diketahui bahawa Islam adalah agama yang membuka seluas luasnya kepada pengikutnya untuk beramal. Ini termasuk di dalam hukum hakam yang digariskan oleh ulama. Hanya terdapat sedikit perkara yang wajib dan begitu juga yang haram. Yang lain semuanya bersifat harus.
