 The Foundation of Islamic Civilization.

 

 

The word civilization in Arabic can be translated into few such as tamaddun (تمدن), qaryah (قرية), bilad (بلاد) or madinah (مدينة). However it may have differences in a particular manner.The prophet peace be upon him never gave a particular details in how to build a nation. In one aspects, this is such a mercy for his ummah because if it is too strict, the people after him will face difficulties in practicing the knowledge.










However, if we looked at the history of the past great muslim civilization such as the umayyad, abbasid and others in the west, they have managed to attained the peak of the world civilization in terms of ethics,non-revelaed knowledge,poetry and others. The European was having their Dark age during that time.One of the unique character of Islamic teaching is that it doesn’t repel the people culture except of what is clearly prohibited by the Al-Quran and As-Sunnah such as drinking alcohol, fornication and others. The regular norms of the society such as the wearings,food and language will stay as it were. Even the religion of the people will not be forced to change just like what happened in Andalus and Istanbul. The people do the testomony of faith willingly without any coercion from any parties.


Islam Focuses on Knowledge and Souls Rather Than Materials

 

Islam was once succesful to built a great empire in most of the continent of the world. However, it gradually decline during the 16th and 17th century and the last Islamic caliphate which is the Ottoman empire ended in 1924 after world war 2. It lasted for over 600 years after the siege of Muhamad Al-Fatih in 1453. A lot of the previous Islamic rulers were scholars themselves and gave attention to the Islamic education. This is how they managed to conquered a big part of the world continent.

However this does not mean that Islam totally neglect the materials,sciences,sociology,politics and other worldly parts of human life. As a matter of fact, a lot of modern days knowledge sources can be traced back into the Muslim civilization. The name such as Al-Khwarizmi, Ibnu Sina, Ibnu Khaldun and others are no longer strangers to the western communities.

The balance between the wordly and hereafter knowledge is the main key of the Muslim success in the past. Since muslim has their own worldview on this life, they came out with their own version of learning the worldly knowledge. This is one example of beneficial knowledge as stated by the prophet :

 

من طلب الدنيا في عفاف كان في درجة الشهداء

 

Translation :

 

Whoever seek this worldly benefit in moderate, he is indeed as the same level of the martyr.


Conclusion

It is one of the unique quality that Islam promotes where a civilization is build based on the knowledge and ethics brought by it. This is different from other civilization that existed throughout the entire time where there is no clear vision provided by the country. The only goal that they normally provide is usually materialistic based.There are some of the Muslim countries that are very rich untill the westerners love to come for that countries. However, they did not managed to spread the values that were brought by Islam. This is such sad events for the Muslim.

As said before, the true values of Islam are knowledge and ethics. It is impossible to have a peaceful and harmony civilization without the values stated above. The inhabitants will definitely do whatever it takes to fulfill their lust. Thus, the concept of god-fearing human is the ultimate motivation a man can adpot to practice goods and restraining evil.

  Pengenalan       Perlu diketahui bahawa manusia itu terbahagi kepada dua bahagian yang tidak dapat dilihat dengan mata kasar, iaitu akal dan ruh.   Pengenalan     Perlu diketahui bahawa Islam adalah agama yang membuka seluas luasnya kepada pengikutnya untuk beramal. Ini termasuk di dalam hukum hakam yang digariskan oleh ulama. Hanya terdapat sedikit perkara yang wajib dan begitu juga yang haram. Yang lain semuanya bersifat harus.
