Islam And Cultural Normalities

 Introduction

 

Culture or norms are a condition usualy regarded to a certain races or groups. For example, the Malays had its own culture in terms of religion,food,language and activities. However, it is totally can not be classified only to race. A working place, study or hangout group also had their own cultural practices.

God also sent prophet to preached his messages to their own people. This is mentioned in Al-Quran :

 

 

و لقد بعثنا في كل أمة رسولا ان اعبدوا الله واجتنبوا الطاعوت

 

Translation : Indeed, we have sent to every nation prophets to worship Allah and to stay away from harm

What is culture according to Islamic Views?

 

In Arabic, the word culture is adah (عادة) which means something that recurrently happens. Some scholars says that fire comes with adah of burning something because this happened most of the times. However, the fire have the opposite attributes when prophet Ibrahim was thrown into them.

As for the practice, culture is a certain practice that is regards to a certain race or community. This kind of practice might be both good or bad in the sight of religion. For example, the Malay community loves to make certain function or preparing food for the guests that come. That is an example of a good culture. However, at some place bribery and corruption is a kind of culture that everybody makes. This is an example of bad culture. To make it more dangerous, everybody over there is commiting it until those who did not do it is consider something else. Thus, this is a harder practice to be abolished.

Race And Culture

 

It is important to note that God purposedly made us into different segregations,race,group and nations for us to know each other. It is mentioned in Al-Quran :

 

و جعلناكم شعوبا و قبائلا لتعارفوا

 

 

Translation : We made you into nations and tribes so that you can know each other.

 

Thus, those who claimed wanted to unify certain groups have their own hidden agenda. God has made us into sects and tribes, why would we unify them? This usually being done to gain fame and power rather than for the sake of religion.

Conclusion

 

It is undeniable that some other cultures have advantages that gthe Islamic culture doesn’t have. For example, in the modern days the west has a lot of things that the Muslim countries don’t have such as the military,technologies and others. However, if a Muslim doesn’t have enough Islamic based,he will be influenced by the unislamic code of conducts such as normalizing sex outside marriage, tatoo, neglecting the basic shariah requirements and others.
