Ethics In Islam

 Introduction

 

 

It is important to note that tassawuf is a science that has a lot of names. Among them are ihsan,irfan,tazkiyah an-nafs and others. It is the third pillars of Islam where without it, the Muslim actions are consider to be incomplete. It is like eating rice without any chicken or meat.

The religious knowledge from time to time become more separable. For example, there were no jruisprudence, principle of jurisprudence, science of hadith or Arabic during the time of the prophet and even during the khulafa ar rasyidin. The scholars put into separate syllybus from time to time so that it can be easily understand.

As for this reason, the capabilities of the Muslim to mastered the sciences become harder and harder. That is why the scholars were divided into their own specialities

Ethics In Islam

 

 

After the death of prophet, the Muslim cant no longer bear all the Islamic knowledge as the companions did. Thus, there were various scholars who are expert in various field such as the Arabic grammar ,jurispundence,Quranic interpration and others. One of the field knowledge is known as Tassawuf  which can be translated to the purifacation of heart. Their main objective of this subject is for the Muslim to bear witnessed that all of that occurs in this world was the action of God.It is called musyahadah (مشاهدة). This field is different from another sciences of Islam where it dealt with the heart not the intellect.

Thus the approaches uses in enhancing this sense is different. Our mind requires a lot of intellectual activities such as reading,listening and talking. However, the requirement of heart is different from the mind. It needs to be alone, the reduction of speaking and seeing people. This will only degrade the condtion of the heart. Thus if one requires to seek this kind of knowledge, he should seek for the sufis instead of the expert in jurispundence.

The other name for this part of Islam is Tassawuf. A lot of scholars of Islam put their own definitions. One of the Imam name Zakariya Al-Ansori stated that :

 

التصوف

 علم يعرف به  أحوال تزكية النفوس و تصفية الأخلاق و تعمير الظاهر و الباطن لنيل الساعدة الأبادية

Conclusion

 

In sum, ethics is one of three pillars of Islam. Losing it in life is like losing one of the pillars in Islam. Therefore, we must search the people who master in those field in order for us to practice it in our daily live by learning from them.

This is the fundamaental of the religion. Religion is not something that is based on materials like the Roman and Persian. If that civilization falls it means all of its philosophy fall. Islam is the other way around. It is based on knowledge. The fall of materials thing doesn’t mean he is the wrath of God. We even believe that kaabah will fell in the end of time.
